Helicobacter pylori-resistant toothpaste is suspected of false propaganda

[Direct Report Network Beijing June 18rd] (China Consumer Daily)Along with the improvement of people's oral health awareness, new toothpaste products with efficacy have appeared frequently, and the nominal efficacy of sterilization, hemostasis and anti-sensitivity is not enough. Is its nominal efficacy worthy of the name? Is it in line with the relevant national standards? Is security guaranteed? Our reporter conducted in-depth investigation to analyze consumer questions one by one.

Advertisements pop up when the computer screen saver is in status.

Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is the main pathogenic factor of chronic active gastritis, peptic ulcer, gastric mucosa associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and gastric cancer. According to the Fifth Consensus on Helicobacter Pylori Diagnosis and Treatment published in 2017, the adult infection rate in China is about 50%.

Say goodbye to bad breath and stay away from Helicobacter pylori. Is a toothpaste that can "stay away from Helicobacter pylori" very touching? Recently, Beijing consumer Ms. Li reported to this newspaper that the above advertisement popped up when her computer screen was dormant. For the advertisement's protagonist, Spirosa Star toothpaste, Ms. Li felt "heartbeat" and also had some doubts: Can toothpaste really prevent and kill Helicobacter pylori? To give consumers a clear answer, reporters launched a series of surveys.

Questions:

Does Anti-Helicobacter pylori Toothpaste Belong to Effective Toothpaste

Recently, our reporter visited supermarkets in Beijing, such as Haifa and Wumei, but found no toothpaste named "Youluosa Star".

Subsequently, the reporter logged on two e-commerce platforms, Jingdong and Tianmao, and searched for the keyword "Youluoshaxing toothpaste" and found that all of them had the brand toothpaste for sale. Reporters entered their flagship store and found that besides 90 g (g) and 140 g (g) adult toothpaste packages, there are children's toothpaste sets. Subsequently, the reporter purchased a set of adult spiraxin toothpaste (2 pieces) from Jingdong Platform. On the packaging of the product, the reporter saw the striking label: "National invention patent ZL201410168022.9 for anti-Helicobacter pylori toothpaste", "invention and entrepreneurship award" and "conform to national product standard GB/T8372-2017", but no label of "efficacy toothpaste standard" GB/T 2966-2014 was found.

So, does this spiraxin toothpaste have the effect of preventing or killing Helicobacter pylori? Does it have the efficacy verification report issued by the relevant stomatological hospitals and dental institutes?

In response to this question, on the afternoon of June 12, the reporter called the product consultation and the manual customer service telephone of the ordering hotline for the product outsourcing, requesting an interview letter to be rejected. Subsequently, the reporter added the company's staff in the name of consumers to Weixin, which provided the reporter (consumer) with the National Patent Certificate for Invention of Anti-Helicobacter pylori Toothpaste, the Certificate for Accreditation of Scientific and Technological Achievements and the Certificate for Award of National Invention Exhibition, but there was no "Functional Validation Report" required by GB/T 2966-2014.

On the morning of June 13, the reporter dialed the product consultation telephone for the second time. Ye manager responsible for sales and the staff responsible for patents of the company responded to the reporter by telephone that "Pyrosasacin toothpaste is not a functional toothpaste", explaining that the "anti-oral Helicobacter pylori traditional Chinese medicine toothpaste" labeled on the outer package could be "prevented oral Helicobacter pylori". Subsequently, the reporter sent a written interview letter to Shanghai Likang Disinfection Hi-Tech Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Likang Company) to further understand and confirm the efficacy of the labeling of the product and the related efficacy verification report. On June 14, the reporter received an e-mail reply from Likang Company, saying that the two sides should promote communication and exchange and invite our reporter to interview on the spot, but did not give a clear answer to the reporter's interview questions. This newspaper will continue to pay attention to the progress of events.

Consumer Ms. Li disagrees with a series of explanations given by businessmen. She said the words "farewell to halitosis, stay away from Helicobacter pylori" and "anti-oral Helicobacter pylori traditional Chinese medicine toothpaste" could easily make consumers think that they would play a role in drug treatment.
